Dog Listening is a method of communicating with dogs in a way that they understand. The approach is based on understanding a dog’s behaviour and uses positive safe and easy to understand training methods so that your dog gets the right message.
The method is kind and safe, no gadgets are used and it can be done by you.
So why might I need a dog listener?
A Dog Listener will help you to become the leader of your domestic pack by showing you how to communicate with your dog in a way that it understands. Your dog may develop behaviours that humans view as unacceptable as a consequence of the dog trying to be leader and protect its pack.
Dog Listening is a method of communicatingwith dogs in a way that they understand.
The method is called Amichien® Bonding (AB) and was developed by International Dog Listener Jan Fennell. Jan began to question traditional obedience training techniques which essentially imposed the human’s will upon the dog (no matter how gentle or kind the approach). Jan’s turning point was after watching a demonstration by Monty Roberts (the Horse Whisperer) which led her to think that a similar approach must be possible with dogs. Extensive study of non-captive wolves and wild dogs helped Jan to develop her method known as Amichien® Bonding.
Dogs have descended from wolves but even though domesticated by man, their instincts remain. In the wild, survival is the pack’s main concern and the pack leaders (the alpha male and female) are the ones responsible for ensuring this. There are four key areas where the pack instinctively behaves in a particular way – feeding; separation and reuniting; the hunt; perceived danger. Amichien® Bonding works by recognising and utilising these natural instincts and behaviours.
The method is easy to implement but must be done calmly and consistently. It is a way of life with your dog rather than a training method.
Best of all:
• it does not require gadgets or brute force
• you don’t have to go to classes
• it works with dogs of all ages
• it can be done by you
The approach is based on understanding a dog’s behaviour and uses positive safe and easy to understand training methods so that your dog gets the right message.
The consultation will take place in your own home where both you and your dog(s) will feel more relaxed. It will last for 2-3 hours but more time will be given if needed. The most important thing to be aware of is that I can’t wave a magic wand and all will be well (I wish!). The method requires some behaviour changes (both human and canine) and rather than ‘training’ the dog(s) I work with you so that you understand why the dog is behaving in a particular way and what you can do to change that behaviour.
You will learn the four elements of the method:
• Feeding
• Separation and reuniting / establishing status
• Dealing with (perceived) danger
• Going for a walk
I will help you to learn how to communicate and work with your dog(s) so that you are able to establish yourself as leader of your domestic pack. This will result in a stress free, relaxed and well behaved dog because it will want to do things with you of its own free will. Before I leave, I will recap the action you need to take and I will help you to note this in a way that works for you – your personal ‘Action Plan’. If further explanations are needed at this point I will take you through it again until you are happy and confident that you are able to implement the method yourself.
The consultation fee is £180 plus mileage at 45p per mile and covers:
• The initial consultation
• A follow up phone call approximately 2 weeks after the consultation to review your progress
• A free back-up service by phone or email for life for any further problems or issues that you may encounter
This is particularly important as it will take time for both you and your dog to learn. There is no time limit – I will be there to support and guide you for as long as you need me to do so. Back up visits are not usually necessary but if you would like one there would be an additional cost of £30 per hour plus mileage at 45p per mile.

As well as advising dog owners privately and giving talks to small groups, I am one of a team of Dog Listeners at the ‘Mayflower Sanctuary’ in Bawtry near Doncaster. We give talks to prospective dog adopters about the language of the dog and how to best settle their new dogs into their new homes. This makes the transition between kennels and the new home easier for both the dog and the new owner and hopefully help minimise any problems they may encounter. We are also available to give advice if and when needed once the dog is re-homed.
I am a Highly Recommended Associate Dog Listener and take part in the strict Quality Control System required by all Jan Fennell International Dog Listeners.

with Jaf
Angie was able to explain in ways I understood why dogs behave the way they do and why they need to be treated as individuals. The advice she gave me definitely changed the way I trained my latest dog Jaf and meant that all the way through his puppyhood we grew closer. He is without a doubt my best friend.

with Lily
Seeing Lily now, it's hard to believe how bad things were and how desperate I was when we asked for help. We're really grateful that you set us on the road to having such a lovely pet.

with Maisie
Maisie's a totally different dog to the scared and timid one we rescued just a few months ago. She's really settled now and it's been really nice to watch her personality come out. I just wanted to say thanks for your help in the early stages. It was hard at times but patience and perseverance has paid off.

with Oscar
Angie was really helpful when I first got Oscar (aged 10 weeks old) and because of her help and support he is now turning into a really well behaved and respectful dog.
